Bridge Day From The New River!
Once a year the New River Gorge Bridge (that’s the one on our quarter) is shut down to traffic and West Virginia throws its biggest single day festival! It’s a great opportunity to walk out on to the 976′ high structure and catch views that are rarely seen of the New River Gorge National Park and Preserve. During the day BASE jumpers will leap, even catapult themselves into the abyss and try to land on the river bank below. Rappellers will slide down hundreds of feet of rope to the foot of the Gorge. While all this is going on vendors and makers gather along 19 for guests to shop their wares and taste their food.
One of the best views of these festivities is from the river below. What better way to experience Bridge Day then to raft the Lower New River Gorge and enjoy it’s awesome rapids that range from class 1 – Class IV+! As you draw your adventure to a close you’ll be floating directly beneath the New River Gorge bridge and the Bridge Day Festivities. If you’re lucky (you probably will be) then you’ll get to see dare devils flying from the bridge and releasing their chutes before drifting to the riverbank nearby!
