There’s never been a greater need for team bonding with much of the country stuck at home for months on end. As the country slowly returns to normalcy, ACE Adventure Resort patiently awaits your arrival. Small businesses, departments, teams, and boardrooms thrive on face-to-face interactions, where bonds are formed, leadership skills are groomed, and goals are etched. Team-building plays an integral role in the workplace. And it’s proven that outdoor team-building activities, especially at an off-site, lead to stronger relationships, better numbers, and happier employees.

The Top 5 Outdoor Team-Building Activities

Before we dive in, it’s critical to note that ACE Adventure Resort is within 230 miles of several East Course metropolises. We’re also equipped to foster team-building retreats of all shapes and sizes, thanks to our 1,500-acre woodland locale and team of professional guides. Hopefully, these five outdoor team-building activities provide an authentic look into our little slice of Appalachian heaven, known as the New River Gorge.

1. Whitewater Rafting

Most team outing ideas, at least in the Appalachian Mountains, revolve around whitewater rafting. There’s nothing quite like the bonds formed while paddling amid “big water.” No prior experience is needed as our skilled guides will anchor your team along the exhilarating Lower New River (or the world-famous Gauley River).

2. Team Challenge Course

It’s imperative to push your group’s comfort zone. As you might expect, the most rewarding outdoor team-building activities are typically centered around new skills, such as rock climbing, whitewater rafting, or stand-up paddleboarding. ACE’s aptly-named Team Challenge Course is a nonstop, day-long venture that builds and builds toward a thought-provoking crescendo.

3. Mud Obstacle Course

It should come as no surprise that our Mud Obstacle Course is exceedingly popular among teams and military units. The course is taxing, inventive, muddied, and undeniably gratifying. Teams cannot resist the urge to splash, crawl, leap, and climb this daunting track. Groups are given 2.5 hours to complete the course. This is the perfect opportunity to push each other, build new skills, and conquer something distinctly intimidating.

4. Rock Climbing / Rappelling

On the surface, rock climbing seems like a highly individualized sport. However, scaling a steep rock wall revolves around teamwork, specifically communication. Unlike many outdoor team-building activities, rock climbing requires a great deal of patience, confidence, and creativity. That being said, anyone can do it! Our team of climbing experts will ensure that your experience is safe, enjoyable, and matched perfectly to your team’s skill level.

5. Paintball Tag

Groups can choose between a variety of paintball courses as well as two game styles: traditional tag or capture the flag. Both methods foster an unrestrained amount of corporate team-building. A lot of groups put “something on the line” in an effort to crown the winner. After all, a little incentive typically adds an extra element of teamwork into the fold.
