Best Adventures at ACE
The New River Gorge in West Virginia is an outdoor recreation mecca. ACE Adventure Resort has been in business for 40 years guiding guests into the magical wild & wonderful wilderness. While dancing your weekend away with Umphrey’s McGee, Big Something, Aqueous & more be sure to make time for some mountain adventures. ACE offers a boat load (pun intended) of adventures to get your adrenaline pumping and here is the top 5 not to miss out on while you are in town!
Whitewater Rafting
Paddling down the Lower New River Gorge is the number one activity at ACE Adventure Resort and known around the world as a top whitewater destination. Embarking on this trip you will experience more than 25 rapids featuring large powerful waves you will be blasting straight through. We call those big explosions of whitewater over the bow of the boat “hits.” In early June water levels should be prime for seeking out tons of great hits and water temperatures will be warming up tempting rafters to swim, jump, flip, and splash out of the boat and into the water while floating across the many calm pools. Your trip will wrap up underneath the famous New River Gorge Bridge and you will be treated to amazing views of this behemoth towering 876 feet over your head.
Rock Climbing
There are people who move to the New River Gorge JUST for the rock climbing. With miles and miles of smooth climbable sandstone walls this area is up there with Eden in the world of climbing. Located inside the gorge ACE has cliffs onsite where we can get you climbing and rappelling without every leaving property where Mountain Music Festival takes place. Check out all the climbing trips offered by ACE Adventure Resort and choose between half-day, full-day, and evening sampler options. If you are a climber, grab a guidebook, climb by day, and party all night with over 25 bands!
Mountain Biking
Bring your bike and go out exploring ACE’s 1,500 acres in the New River Gorge. ACE maintains over 35 miles of trails that link into the National Park Service trail system where you could ride hundreds of miles! You will find plenty of scenic overlooks, waterfalls, boulder gardens, and even abandoned coal mines on the property. One of our favorite rides takes you along the rim of the gorge and then drops almost 800 feet to the river and the ghost town of Thurmond, WV. ACE also has a fleet of mountain bike rentals if you need a bike to hit the trails.
Zip Lining
Have the need for speed? Fly through the treetops and glide from cliff to cliff along a steel cable. Sign up for the Zip Line Canopy Tour and take on 9 different zip lines on the rim of the New River Gorge. Experience tandem zips, the trust fall, the plunge, and teeter over Rush Run Creek while encountering the swinging skybridge. Come fly with us while getting down with all the fantastic music on the mountain.
Stand Up Paddle Boarding
Want to break away and have some quiet time to listen to the sounds of nature? Floating on a Stand Up Paddle Board (SUP) is the perfect way to feel the rhythm in the water. The Evening SUP Sampler will take you to a calm spot on the New River to try out the sport and find your balance. Our half-day trips will take you to a more scenic location and you will spend more time exploring why we call West Virginia Wild & Wonderful. Each of ACE’s SUP trips come with a guide to facilitate your trip and give you pointers for a successful adventure.
