Kanawha Falls HuckFest 2024

Originally presented by the minds behind Boof & Destroy, Corey Lilly and Josh Collins, this lifestyle event is back from the dead. Held in Gauley Bridge at Kanawha Falls, this event helps to celebrate our access to an amazing park & huck feature, with multiple drops, runnable at a variety of water levels. Composed of a freestyle trick competition, a slalom trash course, and a photography competition, we’re stoked to organize this event in August of 2024.

Registration is available on event day from 10-11AM at the Glen Ferris Inn.

Freestyle Competition

Decisions about which drop will be used for which event will be determined based on water level and communicated prior to the event. The freestyle competition will give athletes a chance to show off their best tricks to judges who will reward points based on, technique, difficulty, execution, and finesse. If you think you may have the skills/experience to judge, please reach out to [email protected].

Slalom Race

Decisions about which drop will be used for which event will be determined based on water level and communicated prior to the event. The slalom competition is a timed race where racers will navigate slalom gates using features along a pre-determined course. The fastest time wins, but racers will receive time penalties for missing gates. Following the tradition of the first Huckfest the slalom gates will be created using trash found on and around the falls. If you want to be part of the course creation team, please e-mail [email protected].

Photography Contest

One of the reasons we love Kanawha is we can bring our non-whitewater friends and they can have fun too! Spectators (or competitors) are encouraged to participate in an event wide photography contest. Photo winners will be picked for the following categories: Freestyle Competition, Slalom Competition, Overall Event, & Best Carnage.

Participant Information

Check-in & Parking
All spectators and competitors MUST park in designated parking areas (Glen Ferris Inn & Glen Ferris Apostolic Church) as directed by parking attendants and ride the provided shuttle to the falls. It is crucial we do not park at the Kanawha Falls boat launch to ensure compliance with our DNR permit.

Check-in will be at the Glen Ferris Inn starting at 10 AM and ending at 11 AM. All participants must be registered, pick up their bib, and make it to the competitor briefing at 12 PM. Breakfast & coffee will be available for purchase from the Glen Ferris Inn at check-in!

Waivers
All participants MUST complete the ACE Adventure Resort General Liability Waiver. You should complete this waiver online prior to the event check in HERE. Select the date as 8/17/24 then click special events, then click Huckfest before entering your personal information.

Freestyle Competition
The Freestyle Competition will follow a round robin format, allowing competitors to throw as many tricks within the 45 min time frame as they would like (may change direction dependent on registration). Competitors will be scored on Creativity/style, Technical Difficulty, & Amplitude.

Slalom Competition
The Slalom Competition will follow a round robin format, allowing competitors to paddle as many laps down the course within the 45 min time frame as they would like (may change direction dependent on registration). Please be aware, we do not have an outside timing organization helping, so please be understanding as we work to record accurate times.

Photography Competition
Photography competitors must still check-in at the Glen Ferris and ride the shuttle to the falls. Photos must be submitted via e-mail prior to Monday, August 19 @ 5PM for prize consideration. Submissions should be sent to or shared with [email protected].

Awards & Prizes
Awards will be announced at the Glen Ferris Inn following the event at 4 pm. If the event is moving ahead of schedule we may move awards earlier and will communicate this after the Slalom competition. Cookout food will be available for purchase from the Glen Ferris Inn Restaurant.
