The New River may be one of the oldest rivers in the world but each season it creates a brand new experience. For experienced rafters or those looking for a challenge, the Spring brings whitewater that rivals Fall Gauley season!
Throughout May and June, Spring winds its way through the Gorge and reshapes it – leaving behind breathtaking scenery and impressive water levels on the Lower New River. During the high Spring levels, the rapids become huge and the current fast. This combination gives us the unique opportunity to run the Lower New River TWICE in one day! That’s 16 miles of whitewater, 35+ rapids ranging from class III to V, and two rides you will never forget!
TRIP HIGHLIGHTS
New River Gorge Bridge: Lower New River Gorge rafting trips end under the awe-inspiring New River Gorge Bridge, providing dramatic closure to the most inspiring outdoor journey on the East Coast.
A hot riverside lunch will be prepared by your guide and will quickly become a high point of the trip.
Paddle through 35+ rapids ranging from class III to V throughout 16 miles of whitewater.

Check-in, gear up, and take off! You’ll start the day at our resort getting checked in and outfitted with a helmet, paddle, and PFD. We’ll get you on the bus and head to the put-in on the river. During the first run of the day, you will feel the exhilarating power of the Lower New River in the Spring! The huge water, massive waves, and fast moving current will be yours to navigate alongside your crew and professional guide. After approximately 8 miles the view of the New River Gorge Bridge will let you know the first run has come to an end. Then it’s time to hop back on the bus, head back to the put-in, and tackle it again. For the second run your confidence and adrenaline will be soaring – making it the best run of the day!
TRIP TIPS
March-May is considered Spring rafting on the New River. The waves will be huge and the current will be fast. This is the only time we are able to paddle this section twice in one day!
Unusually high water levels will cause trips to be shifted to a different section of the river for safety.
Waivers are required for all participants.
Let us know about any food allergies or dietary restrictions prior to your arrival at ACE
Water shoes, sunglasses, sunglass straps, and more last-minute essentials can be purchased in the outfitter’s store.
Wetsuits are available to rent prior to your trip.
Be sure to leave the jewelry, watches, and any other valuables behind. Your trip leader will secure your car keys in a safe place. Items are easily lost on the river!

Waterproof cameras/GoPros are allowed on ACE Lower New River Gorge whitewater rafting trips.
An ACE photographer will take photos along the way for purchase after the trip in the Outfitter store at ACE Adventure Resort or here on our online store…
All Lower New River Gorge rafting trips will have a trip video, Upper New River Gorge trips will have a photographer only.
