ACE Adventure Resort’s 1500-acre resort, located in the heart of the New River Gorge National Park in Southern West Virginia, has been serving the Scouting community for over 40 years. The Summet Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve and High Adventure Camp are just a 20 minute drive away.

Scouts use ACE as a single-day location for rafting and the waterpark or as a multi-day location that provides a budget-friendly option for a multi-day to weeklong camp.

Scouts BSA Should Be Prepared… For Fun!

The resort provides 40 miles of hiking and biking trails for guests to discover the beauty of “These West Virginia Hills.” The New River region of the state is the home of high adventure. ACE provides lodging, meals, and guided activities that Scouts incorporate into their programming to build confidence, discover activities that challenge individuals, and develop troop cohesiveness.

In addition to rafting the Upper or Lower New River, you’ll find land-based (ziplining, rock climbing, aerial park, hiking, and mountain biking) or water-based (rafting, kayaking, and stand-up paddleboarding) activities from which to choose.

High Adventure Package

Did you know that Scout BSA members can earn merit badges at ACE? Hands-on experience and our highly trained guides will help your scouts achieve their goals.

The New River Gorge High Adventure Package, created with Scouts in mind, offers a week of guided adventure, waterpark passes, and primitive camping with the addition of a six-piece patch set.

Climb in the world-famous New River Gorge region, experience class 3-5 rapids rafting the Lower New River, raft in inflatable kayaks on the Upper section of New River, bike along trails located at ACE and the surrounding New River Gorge, zip through the treetops on our Gorgeside zipline, conquer each level of the Aerial Park, or take to Summersville Lake to SUP and kayak.

STEM With Adventure!

Learning is even better when it is a hands-on experience! At ACE, Scouts can learn about STEM in a fun and experiential environment. Scouts can choose from a variety of STEM activities, specifically designed to help them learn in a fun and exciting way. Scouts can raft, zip, climb, hike, or spend a day at Wonderland Waterpark learning about the world around them in the coolest classroom ever. Hydrology, Newton’s Laws of Physics, Geology, and more will be explored in the various classes, and Scouts will perform experiments to further aid in their learning.

STEM Outdoor Education trips can be customized to assist Scouts with their Ecology and Geology Merit Badges.

Not Your Average Waterpark

ACE’s waterpark is a great place to keep your scouts active between guided activities and the perfect option to finish the day’s adventures.

Kick back and relax at Wonderland Waterpark, or go all out and experience all of the dozens of inflatable elements on this 5-acre lake. This is a waterpark like you’ve never seen, trust us. Zipline into the water or tackle one of the waterslides. Blob your friends, or relax on the sandy beach. Jump from giant inflatable mountains or take a spin on the huge planet-like orbs.

Scouts BSA Ready Group Amenities

Need a meeting space? ACE’s Lakeside Junction meeting room provides an indoor (climate-controlled) space for your Scouts to meet in between adventures. Or, if you need an even larger area, our Mountain Top Concert Space has a 3,000-person capacity, with electrical hookups and bathrooms on site.

Scouts get hungry, really, really hungry. ACE’s award winning Lost Paddle Restaurant serves up delicious grub for hungry groups, no matter the size. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner options are available for any and all group sizes and budgets.

Stay close to all the action at ACE’s Mountain Top Campground! Bring your own tent, or rent one from us, and sleep under the stars. If roughing it isn’t your thing, ACE also has cabin and bunkhouse options!

Budget friendley lodging options include primitive camping, bunkhouses, and tents. You’ll find shower houses with hot running water stretegically placed throughout the resort.

Free Activities

Check out the New River Gorge National Park Junior Ranger and Scout Ranger Programs. Both are free of charge as a part of the NPS programming for youth.

If the goal of your trip to Southern West Virginia is to hike every day, then the New River Gorge National Park will not disappoint.

• WV Tourism’s Waterfall Trail provides directions and incentives to locate and enjoy 40 waterfalls throughout the state. Fifteen of those waterfalls are in the New River Gorge. Start with Finn’s Falls, located here at ACE Resort.
• The Meadow River Rail Trail opened in 2023 and has six miles of completed trail. This trail provides a unique opportunity to experience the beauty of the Meadow River backcountry, which is accessible by rail trail or river.
• Needles Eye Bouldering Park is located only fifteen minutes from the resort. You’ll discover unique rock formations that invite you to climb up, around, and through the large rock formations and boulders.

The 2026 BSA National Scout Jamboree will take place July 22-31 at the Summit Bechtel Reserve, just a 20-minute drive away.

W.I.L.D. Institute

For those Scouts and Leaders pursuing advanced training, ACE Adventure Resort is the home base for W.I.L.D. Institute. Its mission is “to educate and empower individuals who desire to advance themselves and serve their communities professionally in the Adventure Travel and Outdoor Recreation Industries.” W.I.L.D.’s course offerings include, but are not limited to:
