Get Muddy & Live United
Get Ready for Gritty Chix Mud Run
The Gritty Chix Mud Run is more than just an exciting and muddy event in the New River Gorge. Yes, it is a total blast to experience, and yes, it is an empowering race, an excellent example of the spirit of female fortitude, but this year, there’s more to love about Gritty Chix! In 2021, ACE is partnering with the United Way of Southern West Virginia, who is always there to help those in need. Whether you are volunteering or participating, fun and fundraising are coming together during the 7th annual Gritty Chix Mud Run at ACE Adventure Resort.
At Gritty Chix, you’re gonna sweat a little, challenge yourself a little, get a little mud in your teeth, and you’re gonna have a lot of fun doing it. But it is also an opportunity to give back to the people of Southern West Virginia by supporting the United Way! UWSWV maximizes community outreach by partnering with agencies that provide services through food pantries, baby pantries, utility assistance, women’s resources, child advocacy, childhood enrichment, home-delivered meals for seniors, and recovery programs. This is your chance to support a fantastic cause!
United Way in Your Neighborhood
United Way of Southern West Virginia is known as our community’s resource of resources because they network with other agencies to maximize outreach. An example of this is financially assisting agencies that serve at-risk populations. One such agency is Just for Kids Child Advocacy Center, who serves Raleigh, Fayette, and Wyoming counties. Just For Kids works in collaboration with state and local law enforcement, prosecutor’s offices, child protective services, and domestic violence programs to help victims of child abuse. The United Way partnership helps to bridge the gaps in their state and federal funding.
Other programs the United Way has created to help fill our community’s needs is the United Way’s Equal Footing Shoe Fund. This fund gives money for basic clothing needs to children upon referral by public school staff, social workers, administrators, counselors, and teachers. The fund also provides new pairs of socks and athletic shoes to children in need.
Do you know about the 2-1-1 informational hotline? This service is yet another way The United Way assists people in Southern West Virginia. The United Way offers a direct service call line for people seeking various community resources. 211 can be dialed from any mobile or phone line where their referral specialist will link the caller with needed resources.
Additionally, the United Way assists in home-delivered meals for seniors, baby pantries, and food pantries to name just a few. Would you like to donate to United Way at the Gritty Chix 2021 race event? The United Way will be at ACE on race day to collect donations of canned food, new diapers, and/or a new pair of children’s shoes and socks on race day. Donate an item and receive a raffle ticket, for a chance to win a free ACE Adventure Package including a full-day waterpark pass and zip line trip for two people. Donate two items, get two raffle tickets, donate 10 items and get 10 raffle tickets. For partnering agencies, we are offering a chance to win whitewater rafting for up to 8 guests on the Lower New River.
Support the United Way and Volunteer
It takes volunteers to Live United, and we are actively recruiting for the Gritty Chix Mud Run on 6-19-21. Spend the day with us as we make muddy dreams come true. Our volunteers help in a variety of ways by doing a number of different jobs. Volunteers may find themselves working at a water station, spotting participants at a muddy obstacle, helping with registration, and more. Are you ready to sign up to volunteer? For your hard work, you will receive free camping Saturday night, a free full-day waterpark pass, and even a FREE Gritty Chix 2021 T-Shirt.

Rosalie Cacaro, BS grew up on a large farm in Southern Ohio, where her family raised cattle, horses, hay, corn and tobacco. She Studied Community Health at Ohio University and in 1994, during her time in college, she began raft guiding in West Virginia on the New and Gauley Rivers.
In 1996, she began video kayaking on those same two amazing rivers and in 1998 began doing both at ACE Adventure Resort. While she always kept a deep love for whitewater, and a part-time connection to ACE, things changed with the birth of her son.
In 2000, she began a full- time career in Community Health, where she worked until 2019 as an Adolescent Health Coordinator and Health Educator. She had a long career but, by 2019, she felt overdue for a new career and found herself back at the place she always loved, ACE, where she is happily employed as the Wedding Coordinator and Assistant Events Coordinator.
