After check-in and getting outfitted with your gear, you’ll head into a remote section of river known for its powerful and continuous rapids.
You’ll take on a series of Class II–V rapids, including “The Big Five” Class V rapids,and a 14-foot waterfall, at a super fast pace with very little downtime between rapids. A little further downstream, you’ll stop for a hot riverside lunch before continuing through the remainder of this intense and unforgettable run.

The Lower Gauley gets treated like an underdog, often overshadowed by the fame of the Upper Gauley. However, the Lower Gauley is a guide favorite, with big holes, huge hits, over 50 rapids, it’s perfect for intermediate rafters, experienced rafters, adventurous families and friend groups, and, to be honest, it’s just a super fun section of river to raft. Each September and October, water is released from Summersville Lake, transforming the Gauley River into a world-class whitewater destination.
For six weekends, paddlers from across the country come to experience what many consider the top single-day rafting trip in the world.
Trip Tips
- Waivers are required for all participants
- Let us know about any food allergies or dietary needs in advance
- Leave jewelry and valuables behind, items are easily lost on the river
- Your trip leader will secure your car keys
- Waterproof cameras and GoPros are allowed
