About WILD Institute

WILD Institute was created in response to the rapid growth of outdoor recreation in the New River Gorge following its designation as a National Park. Increased visitation brings incredible opportunities, but it also raises the need for highly trained guides, outdoor professionals, and first responders who can safely manage technical and medical incidents in complex environments.

As more people explore the outdoors, often with varying levels of experience, preparation and response skills matter more than ever. Guests expect guides to handle emergencies on the river, on the rock, or on the trail. Communities depend on local responders to resolve serious incidents safely and efficiently.

WILD Institute serves as a regional hub for professional outdoor training. We leverage one of the country’s premier outdoor recreation landscapes and the deep expertise of local guides and first responders to deliver high-quality, hands-on instruction. Our instructors bring years of real-world experience and hold advanced certifications through organizations such as the International Rafting Federation (IRF) and the American Canoe Association (ACA).

Our courses are designed to build confidence, competence, and readiness in real outdoor environments.

Training Opportunities Include
