New River Birding and Nature Festival

The annual New River Birding & Nature Festival (est. 2002) takes place in and around the New River Gorge National River in the heart of the upland, hardwood forests identified by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology as a crucial stopover habitat for the continued survival of a variety of species including Golden-winged, Blue-winged, and Swainson’s Warblers and highlights over 100 bird species on a variety of birding tours. A friendly outdoor vacation for everyone, the week long event features daily guided birding and nature excursions in a wide range of habitats, expert speakers and world-class instruction from the finest collection of guides, tasty food and a back-porch atmosphere unmatched by any other birding festival. Preregistration is required. Proceeds go the the nonprofit Fayette County Education Fund, Inc. providing local youth with leadership training and environmental education.
