Advanced Kayak Level IV
The ACE Kayaking School

Advanced Kayaking Level IV
Two or Three Day Course

Prerequisites:
1. Have paddled class III rapids at least 5 times in the last year
2. Can accelerate across strong class III eddy lines
3. Can control ferry angle in swift class III water and is com-fortable with self-rescue in class II water
4. Lead others down class II+ water
5. Willing to refine body mechanics
6. Bombproof class II roll
7. Aggressive braces
Day One-On this day, we will challenge very technical Class III-IV water. We will concentrate on performing offside rolls and snappy U-turns and catching micro eddies. Your instructor will be there to critique, troubleshoot and help fine-tune your moves. This is the day when things start to make sense–visualization, practice, and know-how are integrated in your performance.

Day Two–Our goal on this day is refinement. We will emphasize blade orientation, short angles, torso rotation and efficient body mechanics. We will have a great time on our second day running a pushier section of the river and often repeat rapids to refine technique.

2 days: Thursday/Friday or Saturday/Sunday
3-Day Level IV
3 days: Wednesday/Thursday/Friday includes one day ACA Advanced Swiftwater Rescue Skills on Wednesday

5-Day Intermediate-Advanced Breakthrough
A week of great paddling awaits as we start with our 2 Day Level III course, add the must know River Rescue II, and end with the 2 Day Level IV course (Monday-Friday.)

This course is for the athletic beginner who has some limited experience or is switching from canoeing to kayaking. Available on select dates, Friday-Sunday or Thursday-Sunday.

ACE's Advanced Specialty Courses
Taking it to a New Level
Are you an advanced paddler who wants to focus on specific skills? ACE offers a unique selection of specialty clinics on West Virginia's rivers and creeks. Small class sizes allow you to pursue personal goals. These clinics will challenge you to excel in a nurturing environment of high caliber kayakers. Before we register you for one of our advanced specialty clinics, we require that you complete and return our river experience form. We want to make sure you are placed in the appropriate course for your safety and enjoyment.
Prerequisites:
1. Paddle class III regularly (minimum 6 times in the last year)
2. Lead others on class III whitewater
3. Have paddled class III-IV rapids two times in the previous month
4. Aggressively challenge moves that push your boat control
limits
5. Can demonstrate swiftwater class IV ferries, peel-outs, eddy
turns
6. Bombproof class III+ roll, reliable

Advanced Kayaking Level V:New River Gorge Overnight

We will start our overnight kayak expedition into "The Grand Canyon of the East," the New River Gorge. The focus will be on scouting complex rapids, reading big water, smart route selection, group safety, and playing on the New's beautiful waves and famous rodeo holes.

PlayboatingFundamentals of Park & Play
Having a bombproof roll is mandatory for this clinic. We'll start with the basics of hole and wave surfing, wave spins, 360's, blunts and ollies. The goal is to link your moves and lead you to the next level.

Intermediate Park & Play
Building on the fundamental skills, we'll move into wave wheels, cartwheels, split wheels and cool retentive moves. This is for the paddler who is playing in holes on a regular basis. Prerequisite: Skills learned in Fundamentals of Park & Play.

Advanced Rodeo
Want to rodeo with the big dogs? Want a step-by-step breakdown of the newest moves? We'll focus on moves like space godzillas, loops, tricky wu, etc. Learn from the area's rodeo stars. Prerequisite: Skills learned in Intermediate Park & Play.

Expert Fall Gauley

Kayaking World Class WhitewaterHere is your chance to take your kayaking to a new level. The Fall Gauley can be divided into 2 to 3 sections. The Middle Gauley (class III-IV), the Lower Gauley (class IV-V) and the Upper Gauley (class V+). As we search for the perfect wave, you will learn about the finer techniques required to kayak this world-class river. Our Fall Gauley course is aggressive and a bombproof roll is required.

Custom Clinics for Youth Groups

ACE's custom programs for youths groups allow group leaders to set up individual classes specifically for their organization. It offers the same advantages as our custom clinics but is provided at a special price for Youth Groups (call for pricing). This program is great for school groups looking for challenging fun, scouting groups that want to set up merit badge clinics or inner city outreach programs.
